The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives and patrol personnel have arrested and charged suspects in connection with “Operation Rescue.” The operation took place on May 30-31, of 2012 and concentrated on the Eastlake and Gate City communities.   
 
The following are the results of the operation:
    •    8 Felony Arrests
    •    Charges including: Robbery / Assault / Burglary / Unlawful Possession of Marijuana – Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances / Weapons Violations.
    •    RESCUE Personnel arrested one individual for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana – Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances & Violation of State Firearms Act. The defendant had approx. 1 pound of marijuana / crack cocaine / a loaded handgun / and a large sum of cash. Officers learned the defendant was a convicted felon and have forwarded the case to Project ICE for possible prosecution. (This arrest occurred in Gate City)
    •    RESCUE Personnel identified two subjects, one of whom was arrested on a misdemeanor charge. One subject admitted that both had been on their way to burglarize a residence near 1st Avenue North when the officers observed them. Investigators are following up on the information provided.
    •    12 Misdemeanor Arrests
    •    41 Citations Issued.


GATE CITY:
    •    On both days of the operation efforts were made to focus on the Gate City area. As a result, the above mentioned narcotics arrest was made as were several other arrests.
