TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Brad Cliff, assistant professor of health and physical education, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Health & Physical Education department at Stillman College. He will serve in the place of Dr. Donald Staffo, who has been appointed as emeritus chair after 25 years of service to the College.
Cliff was born in Nashville, Tenn., and raised in Jackson, Tenn., where he attended and graduated from Jackson Central Merry High School. Following secondary school, Cliff attended Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and obtained a Ph.D. in Sports Science. He was offered the opportunity to teach classes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at MTSU while obtaining his master’s degree. He taught in that capacity through his matriculation to his doctoral degree.
Upon receiving his terminal degree, Cliff was offered the role of Chair of the Health & Physical Education Department at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tenn. He served there three years, administering and teaching classes in health and human performance. “It was an amazing opportunity,” he said. “I already knew that I loved to teach, but being Chair of the department introduced me to so many new roles. I really enjoyed designing curriculum, advising students and administering to the department. I have been continually blessed. After three years at Lambuth, another amazing opportunity presented itself when I was offered the position of assistant professor at Stillman in August 2009. Stillman has been amazing and the people welcomed me instantly.” Cliff continued, “I remember when I traveled here to interview, by the end of the day I felt like I was amongst old friends.”
“The idea of being at an HBCU that has such rich history appealed to me a great deal,” he said. “Now, being afforded the opportunity to serve as Chair of Health & Physical Education at Stillman is just icing on the cake.
