Upon hearing Jefferson County Commission President David Carrington’s call for all County Commissioners and staff to be made to take a lie detector test, “to root the traitor from our midst”, not only was I outraged and belligerent, but I realized that this man is seriously ill! Carrington’s statement gave the people of Jefferson County a glance into his malady. Racism is a mental illness but when you think that a sitting Jefferson County President likens himself to Emperor Cicero or at least quoted him in reference to those on the County Commission or who work at the county that disagree with him as “traitors”! Carrington suffers from Psychotic Delusional Disorder! When a person holds strong beliefs that do not fit in with other people’s interpretation of reality, the person may begin to act on these beliefs and this is normally when the illness comes to the attention of others.” (Delta Project: Understanding Psychosis) Since this definition mentions strong belief, I feel personally that Carrington’s diagnosis can be upgraded to “Psychotic Racial Delusional Disorder”! Carrington has pushed a racist, classist, social agenda since he has been at the county. He is delusional in thinking that since he was elected President of the County Commission that his duties are more that of a Roman ruler than just the person who chairs the meeting. When the Birmingham News reported that two Blacks had been laid off so that a white could have the top job in Purchasing, violating Personnel Board Rules and a Federal Consent Decree involving discrimination in hiring at the County, Carrington didn’t express disappointment at the illegal racist action. Instead he expressed anger at who he felt the leak came from (probably a Black commissioner or staffer who have disagreed with his Racist/Classist/Social Agenda). Hiding his disorder behind the noble fig leaf of Attorney/Client privileged communication, Carrington has revealed not only his Psychotic Racial Delusional Disorder but also the pertinent fact that County attorneys are not supposed to represent the Black workers and Black people of the county, who makeup nearly 50 percent of the population. This should be a clarion call for our leaders to come out of the darkness of Dr. King’s shadow, out of the '50s and '60s, to recognize that racism has always been economic! It’s not just name-calling! It is racism when white commissioners created an economic boondoggle; white lawyers made money advising them to go into debt; white contractors made millions; the same white lawyers now are making millions more in bankruptcy covering their illegal advising from the beginning; and Carrington wants to give the bill to the two Black districts! I call on the other four County Commissioners to pull the Emperor’s coat to the fact that he is naked!! And that’s worse than transparent!!! |
