GARDENERS - HUMMINGBIRDS - If you love the outdoors and have not noticed, then, this is the season that hummingbirds migrate south.  So if you have flowers with nectar or any red flowers, then, look for hummingbirds in your yard.  OR...If you want, make your own sweet, red liquid that they like (or buy it) and they will come straight to it.  Enjoy the outdoors!!

While you are at it make your own HUMMINGBIRD DRINK.  Rob McDaniel of SpringHouse Restaurant shared this with BH&G (Birmingham House and Garden) magazine......a sweet summer cocktail.  In a martini shaker add 3 ripe Alabama strawberries, 2 oz Rum (or your favorite drink) 2 fresh mint leaves and 1 1/2 oz honeysuckle syrup (see the recipe below).  Muddle, strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with a whole strawberry.  HONEYSUCKLE SYRUP - Combine 2 cups water and 2 cups sugar in a heavy stock pot and place over medium heat until the sugar has been dissolved.  Remove from heat and place your blossoms in the hot syrup.  All this to steep for 2 hours, then strain and refrigerate. I thought you might like this while you sit outside on the deck and enjoy the weather as it changes and cools down.  Fall is here.

NEAR IN ATLANTA......DON’T MISS..., this weekend...the hottest, newest spot.....IN ATLANTA, the place to get Louisiana style cuisine, classic fare, live jazz and blues entertainment, the FAN CLUB BAR AND GRILL, located at 3259 Dogwood Drive, (near the airport) in Hapeville.  Call (404) 761-7947 for more.  (Tell Carla I said ‘I will be back soon!!’)

TIPS FOR YOU!!
Each week, I would like to give you useful tips. (If you should have any, please pass them on to me. Thanks). TIPS ON ‘ANY AND EVERYTHING’....(and some are not for everyone).  TIP:
5 Reasons to Enjoy This Summer’s Treat - CORN - Do you find yourself craving fresh-off-the-grill corn on the cob but aren't sure if it fits into your diet? Although corn sometimes gets a bad rap—high-fructose corn syrup, anyone?—this delicious late-summer veggie has many health benefits to recommend it:  1. You don't need to buy organic. Although corn is often grown with lots of pesticides, you get rid of most of them when you remove the husk.  2. Corn's full of folate. Corn is a good source of the B vitamin folate, which helps to prevent birth defects and can reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke.  3. Your brain can benefit. Corn's a good source of vitamin B1, or thiamin, which may help improve memory and cognitive function.  4. Corn fills you up. Corn's a whole grain that's high in fiber, which can help keep you fuller longer.  5. You'll want to smile more. Corn's high in phosphorus, great for keeping your bones and teeth healthy.

So go ahead and enjoy some corn from your local farmer's market or grocery store. It's at its peak now through the first frost of the year. Just remember: For the most flavor, don't buy your corn until the day you're ready to eat it. Enjoy!  (Taken from ivillage Health)

RECIPE/FOOD - (If you have recipes you would like to share, send them to me).

Meanwhile, cut cake horizontally into 2 layers with serrated knife.  2.  STACK cake layers on serving plate, spreading pudding mixture between layers.  3.  MICROWAVE chocolate and butter in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 min.; stir until chocolate is melted. Add sugar and remaining milk; mix well. Spread over cake. Refrigerate 1 hour.  Kraft Kitchens Tips:  Size-Wise-Looking for something sweet? One serving of this Boston Cream Pie is sure to hit the spot when served with an ice-cold glass of fat-free milk. NOTE:  Use a 2-layer cake mix to bake 2 (8- or 9-inch) round cake layers. Cool completely. Use 1 of the cake layers as directed. Wrap remaining cake layer tightly in plastic wrap, then in foil. Store in freezer up to 1 month.  How to Slice Cake Layer Evenly:  Place cooled cake layer on serving plate. Make 2-inch horizontal cut around side of cake using long serrated knife. Then, cut all the way through cake layer to make 2 layers.  (Recipe taken from Kraft)  Enjoy!!
